Museum Pass FAQ

Who can borrow the museum passes?
Patrons must be 18 years or over and present a valid library card, in good standing, registered in the LION system. A valid photo ID may also be required by the museum.

How far in advance can I reserve museum passes?
Museum Passes can be reserved up to 60 days in advance.

How can I reserve a museum pass online?
To make a reservation, click here. When the list of museums appears, click on the desired museum. Museums marked with this symbol, printondemand, are printable passes. Select a date to use the desired pass. (This should be the date that you would like to visit the selected museum.)  You’ll need to have your library card number in order to reserve a pass. If the pass is printable, you’ll be prompted to print or e-mail the pass. If the pass is non-printable, you will have to visit the Children’s Information Library to check out the physical pass.

How do I pick up and return a traditional, non-printable pass?
Call the Children’s Library after 3pm on the day before your museum/aquarium/attraction visit, e.g. the day before your reservation, to see if it is available to pick up.  If it is not available to pickup, you will be able to pick it up after 9am on the day of your visit.  You will be asked to present a valid ID and library card that’s in good standing and registered in the LION system. The non-printable pass is checked out for two days, and is due by 5pm on the second day. There is a $10/day overdue charge if items are not returned by their due date. If the non-printable museum pass is lost or stolen, there is a $50 replacement fee levied. Museum passes must not be returned in the book drop; doing so will incur a $10 overdue fine.

How do I use a printable pass?
Many of our passes are available to print when the pass is reserved. Printable passes may be printed from home and are valid for 1 day only – the day you selected when making the reservation. If you do not have access to a printer, library staff can print the pass out for you. Printable passes DO NOT need to be returned to the Children’s Library. Printable passes must be printed; Museums will not accept electronic forms of the pass (on smartphones or tablets). You may also be asked to show valid ID that matches the pass printout.

Are there any limits or penalties?
You may reserve up to four passes a month, but you are limited to one reservation per month for the same museum. During the summer and other high use periods, non-residents may be restricted from using the museum pass reservation system. If you fail to pick up reserved passes twice or more within a 90 day period, you will be blocked from borrowing passes for the next 90 days. There is a $10/day overdue fine for non-printable passes returned late, and a $50 replacement fee for non-printable passes that are lost or stolen. Passes should not be returned in the book drop; doing so will incur a $10 overdue fine.
