Volunteers
VOLUNTEER POLICY
(Revised August 2005)
1. Volunteers are a vital adjunct to the functioning of Meriden Public Library.
2. People of all ages, beginning at age 14, are welcome to volunteer at Meriden Public Library.
3. All volunteer prospects will be screened by means of an applicant fact sheet, personal interview with the Volunteer coordinator and a reference check.
4. Volunteer prospects wishing to perform court-appointed community service will be additionally screened by means of a conversation with a representative of the Office of the State’s Attorney. The Library reserves the right to reject any such volunteer at its discretion.
5. Volunteers develop a regular, mutually agreed upon work schedule with the Library’s Volunteer Coordinator.
6. Volunteers will at all times serve as “community representatives” for the Library and will comport themselves as such. Failure to maintain professional behavior will result in the termination of the volunteer from service at the Meriden Public Library.
7. Each volunteer will wear a badge identifying him/her self as such.
8. Volunteers will sign “in” when they report for their assignment, and sign “out” when they leave the building. This will accomplish two purposes:
a. Volunteer hours will be documented for future information gathering
b. Volunteer security will be maintained in case of a building emergency
9. Volunteers perform vital behind-the-scene tasks that help to keep the Library functioning.
