<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">HOW WE OPERATE</span></span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We operate primarily by appointment. <strong>Appointments may be made by telephone by calling (203) 630-6331 during scheduled times. See other side for schedule.<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span>Appointments cannot be made by calling any other Library number. </strong>We limit the number signing up, hoping to avoid useless waiting. If you wait but are not served, or if we begin your return but cannot finish, we will give you a “return slip.” Service priority goes first to appointments, then to “return slip” holders, then to walk-ins.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"> </span><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">WHAT TO BRING. </span></strong><strong>  </strong>(This list is not complete. It covers the most common needs.)</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Must bring a photo I.D. showing your current address.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Last year’s return. It is often helpful.</span></li>
<li><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Social Security card(s) of taxpayer(s) and any children/dependents who appear on your return. We will not do your return without them!</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Records of all income. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Records to support any credits you may receive – child care expenses, education expenses, retirement saving credit, student loan interest, teacher’s expenses, etc.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;">If you itemize deductions, bring: </span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Records of medical expenses (if over 7.5% of income)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">State and local taxes paid</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Mortgage interest</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Donations to charity </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Job expenses (if over 2% of income)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Record of state refund if you itemized deductions last year</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">PEOPLE WHO LIVE TOGETHER SHOULD HAVE THEIR TAXES DONE TOGETHER</span></strong> to get the best legal result. Both taxpayers must be present.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">WE CAN’T DO ALL RETURNS</span></strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">.</span> Some (but not all) limits:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We CANNOT do returns with rental income, clergy or Puerto Rico income.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Calibri;">We MAY NOT be able to do returns with self-employment income or military pay.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">CHILDREN AND TAXES</span></span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;">To claim your child as a DEPENDENT, it is usually necessary that the child live with you</span> <span style="font-family: Calibri;">for more than half the year. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Calibri;">For your child to qualify you as HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD, you must pay over half of the cost of maintaining a home for the child – rent or mortgage, utilities, heating, maintenance, food, etc. To be “qualified” for EARNED INCOME CREDIT, a child must live with you for over half the year.<strong></strong></span></p>
