Event Details

Join us to learn about the Wangunk with local tribal historian and Wangunk elder Gary O'Neil. The Wangunk tribe has been in Connecticut for thousands of years. Their tribal lands included present day Middletown, Portland, Haddam and East Hampton.

By the end of the 18th century, the Wangunk were forced to leave Middletown and their surrounding lands due to colonization.

Gary O'Neil is a living elder of the Wangunk tribe. His family is of the last traceable Wangunk descendants through Jonathan Palmer. He maintains the tribe's records and genealogy.
